Danica McKellar, the actress (and mathematician) who played the winsome Winnie in the TV show “The Wonder Years,” has a new book coming out called “Math Doesn’t Suck.”  She wants girls to know that “being good at math is cool.”

Danica graduated with honors in math from UCLA and even co-authored a mathematical physics theorem!  She says the book is for “the girls who traditional math instruction isn't reaching. The ones who love fashion, who love accessories and who believe they simply aren't good at math.”  The book includes many fun graphics, quizzes and some shopping examples!  Here’s the story in Newsweek.

I like how smart and talented Lisa Simpson of “The Simpsons” is.  (She’s only 8 years old, has an IQ of 159, is fluent in at least four languages, and plays at least five musical instruments. What a star!)

The first Simpsons full-length movie, “The Simpsons’ Movie”  premieres tomorrow.  Bonne chance, Lisa!

One of my friends went to the King Tut Exhibition in Philadelphia a couple months ago. She came back so excited that she got me interested in ancient Egyptian culture. Pyramids, mummies, hieroglyphs!

One of the “Seven Wonders of the World” is the trio of pyramids at Giza, outside of Cairo, Egypt. I also found it fun to learn there’s a “Cairo” in Illinois in the United States.

Some other U.S. city names I like are:

I love how the website of the U.S. publisher of the seventh (and final)  Harry Potter book is counting down the days (down to the seconds!) to its release. One of the interesting facts is that it’s supposed to have a lot more information on Harry’s parents.

In the meantime, though, it’s less than a week before the opening of the latest Harry Potter movie, the fifth one. “The Order of the Phoenix” opens this coming Wednesday on July 11th. Can’t wait!  Here’s more on the story.
