Kindness Paid Off in Big Way

Yeow! A kind and patient waitress received US$50,000.00 and

a car from a cantankerous customer she’d served for seven years.

(Helped my sagging resolve to become less cranky!) The

89-year-old customer had died this past July and Melina Salazar,

the Brownsville, Texas, waitress, found out about the gifts shortly

I stretch my thinking by listening sometimes to Dennis Prage r, an

American syndicated radio talk show host, columnist, author, ethicist,

and public speaker.” I’m learning from him how to be calm and respectful

(most of the time!) when talking with people who don’t agree with you. And

that it’s unrealistic to expect everyone to agree

with you. Wow! That’s hard for those of us who

want to be friends with everyone and want to

make everyone happy!

Every Tuesday Mr. Prager’s radio show has an hour

segment called the “Ultimate Issues Hour.” Yesterday

the topic was about whether Americans are too

materialistic. It’s easy to say yes, and Dennis has

Another Talented ‘Irvine’!

Because we live in Irvine, California, the name “Irvine” stands out

when we read it or hear it. Last month we learned about a designer

at IKEA named “James Irvine.” Yesterday, we found out about

another talented gentleman with the same

last name. A charming celebrity chef named

Robert Irvine. (Robert looks really strong —

I think his biceps are as big as my head!) He

was visiting wonderful, saucy Southern belle chef

Paula Deen on her holiday TV special. Robert also

has a TV show — named “Dinner: Impossible."

Robert’s first book (above) was released this past September. I love

“Robert’s Rules for Impossible Dinners” (not to be confused with

“Robert’s Rules of Order”!). Robert is also opening a new restaurant in

St. Petersburg, Florida, next year named “Ooze and Schmooze.” Fun

name! We wish him success in all his endeavors.

rest and fluids, he's better! We wanted to share these tips

on flu prevention:

Wash hands often;

Avoid touching your eyes, mouth or nose with unwashed hands;

Disinfect common area surfaces (doorknobs, keyboards, telephones, handrails) with wipes when possible;

Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your arms when you
cough or sneeze. Dispose tissues in a bag or lined basket.
