MeiMei:

We recently learned about Alia Sabur, who became the world's
youngest professor at 18, according to The Guinness Book of
World Records. She was hired three days before her 19th birthday
to teach at Konkuk University in Seoul, South Korea.

Alia started college at the age of ten and went on to earn a Ph.D. in
materials science and engineering. Wow! She’s also an accomplished
clarinetist. We wish her well, especially since she’s directing some of
her research toward curing diseases. You can read about her and
watch a video of her on a Today Show interview here.

Computious:

Earlier this month, I played some sports for the first time on my
cousin’s Wii console. It was really fun – especially the bowling!
(Did you know Wii bowling is also popular among “seniors”?)

On May 19th, Wii Fit makes its U.S. debut. It focuses on fitness
and includes additional games/activities that combine fun, sports,
and exercise (including yoga). It also tracks your weight and
body-mass index. Since I tend to overdo it on the pizza, I’m going
to ask MeiMei, PingPong the panda, and DotComplicated if they’d
like to save up and buy a Wii Fit with me.

Tomorrow, on April 15, 2008, Hyperion Books releases a
new book by Maria Shriver which looks wonderful! She’s an
award-winning journalist and the First Lady of California. She
also has four children! We admire her mother, Eunice Shriver,
for founding the Special Olympics. (Eunice Shriver is a younger
sister of U.S. President John F. Kennedy.)

Just Who Will You Be?, the new book, was
inspired in part by reports that a majority
of kids have a main goal of being famous.
(In an early January 2007 Pew Research
Center poll, 81% of 18- to 25-year-olds
said their first- or second-most-important
life goal is to be rich; 51% said the same
about being famous.) 

Just Who Will You Be? asks the important
question of what is it you want to be famous
for. I love some of the inspiring suggestions:
to set our sights high by aspiring to be great

in order to have positive impact in the world — and to do it with
integrity. We all can be great in our own way by “starring in our
own lives!”
