PingPong the Panda:

As the holiday season begins, conventional wisdom says many people put on
a few extra pounds during this time of tantalizing tasty temptations. One of the
ingredients that makes our holiday treats so flavorful is fat. In more recent years,
we’ve learned that fat isn’t always bad. Fat is both a cause of disease, as well as
necessary for our good health! It depends on what kind of fat it is.

Did you know healthy fats are essential for your:

  • Brain? Sixty percent of the human brain is composed of fat!
  • Cells? Fatty acids make up the membranes that surround our cells.
  • Nerves? Fat makes up the material covering our nerves and allows
for messages to be passed from one part of the body to another.
  • Digestion? Fat is needed to absorb certain vitamins (A, D, E and K)
     from our food.
  • Satiety? Fat helps us feel full longer and helps keep us from overeating.
  • Organs? Fat cushions our internal organs and helps protect them.
  • Immune system? Fat can help prevent inflammation and can help boost
     our immune system.

Wow! Here’s a breakdown:

The good: monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats, which include omega-3
and mega-6 fatty acids.

The unhealthful: trans fat.

The permissible in limited quantities: saturated.

Hot Information on the California Fires

DotComplicated and MeiMei with Air masks 2            Greeting Card - Get Well - Friends make it more ‘bearable’

"IT'S NO FUN TO BE SICK"
                                                                                      GET WELL GREETING CARD

DotComplicated:

We’re in Irvine, California, and are grateful we don't have to
evacuate because of the fires. About this time last year,
more than 800,000 people in Southern California did have to
leave their homes.

We hope the air here doesn't get smoky the way it did last
year. A lot of people wore masks. Here are some tips on what
to do when air conditions are unhealthful:

DotComplicated face with Air mask 2 Everyone should avoid all vigorous exertion,
indoors or out;

DotComplicated face with Air mask 2  Residents with heart disease, respiratory
diseases including asthma, as well as the elderly and
children should stay indoors;

DotComplicated face with Air mask 2  Keep windows and doors closed unless it is extremely
hot inside. In these cases, seek alternate shelter; and

DotComplicated face with Air mask 2  Turn on an air conditioner if you have one. Keep
the fresh air intake closed and the filter clean to minimize
outdoor smoke entering the house.

Thank you to the South Coast Air Quality Management District
for the above suggestions. Here are updates on the Southern
California fires.

Computious:

The economy rests heavily on most of our minds these days.

What attitude gives us the strongest possibility of weathering

these turbulent conditions? I believe it’s “realistic optimism.”

Staying focused on positive possibilities provides the energy

to face real-world problems and solve them satisfactorily.
